For Truchas, we explicitly changed sessions so that we could display model entity labels instead of pedigree ids in the resource panel. In practice, however, we have situations where we want both pieces of information, and there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to get this info. Right now, I open 2 modelbuilders, load the gen file in one as vtk session (which displays labels), load the same gen file in the other modelbuilder as mesh session (which displays ids), and manually generate a cross-reference table, which is actually a screenshot of the vtk resource panel where I have penciled in the pedigree ids.
One possible way to remove that burden would be to have a multiple column option to display names in one column and pedigree id in the other. Entangled with this potential feature request would be an additional requirement to make the pedigree column read-only. And, ideally, it would be nice to have an option to set the label column read-only as well.
Any opinions or alternatives would be welcome.
